Blue Sapphire 0.72ct

From our Portrait Art Collection, this natural blue sapphire was cut from material mined in the Sabaragamuwa gem region of Sri Lanka and shows a soft, light blue with an airy face-up look. The stone weighs 0.72 ct. Faceted locally into a portrait cut with step facets on the face; inclusions were deliberately preserved, not polished away, to work toward a feathery bird sitting on a winter tree branch. Not heated; natural colour throughout. The inclusions are superbly noticeable and were left in on purpose; they are part of reading the stone as a bird on a bare winter branch, not flaws to hide. A Portrait Art Collection piece; suited to a simple mount that lets the internal scene stay readable.
