Asian collectors drive coloured stone investment in 2025

China, Singapore, and Southeast Asia continue shifting discretionary spend toward documented natural corundum.

4 min read

Coloured gemstone demand from Asia strengthened through 2025, with collectors and investors in China, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Southeast Asia prioritizing natural sapphire, ruby, and emerald with laboratory documentation.

Motivations mix adornment, cultural preference, and wealth preservation. Fine unheated Ceylon sapphire sits in a sweet spot: more accessible than Kashmir, more prestigious than generic heated commercial goods, and liquid enough to resell through regional dealers.

Chinese retail showed price resistance at the very top end in some reports, but wholesale floors for fine goods still rose. Diaspora buyers in Australia and Europe also source Ceylon stones for delivery abroad, mirroring patterns seen in the gem shop's own buyer mix.

Asian demand amplifies any supply shock in Sri Lanka or Madagascar. It also rewards sellers who film stones honestly and state treatment clearly, because remote buyers depend on media and papers more than handshake trust.
